Johannesburg - Volunteers are a key element to the successful hosting of the FIFA Confederations Cup, says FIFA Head of Communication Delia Fischer.

In an interview with BuaNews on Sunday, Ms Fischer said without the contribution of the volunteers, preparations for the tournament would not have been this amazing.

"This shows the commitment and determination from the South African government and the people of the country," said Ms Fischer.

However, she urged South African soccer supporters to be punctual for the coming matches and as many fans were only purchasing their tickets on Sunday.

One of the volunteers, Noxolo Mkhatshwa, said she was happy to be involved in the biggest soccer event to be hosted on African soil.

"I am doing this out of love for my country and I am not expecting any reward. I have seen these things on television but now its here in South Africa and I'm more than happy to be involved," said Ms Mkhatshwa.

She is one of 100 of people who have dedicated their time to make sure that South Africa delivers the best ever Confederations Cup.
