Pretoria - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will today receive an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Venda (Univen) in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
The Council and the Senate of Univen agreed to confer the honorary doctorate on the Deputy President for his role in overseeing the drafting of South Africa’s first democratic Constitution.
“Deputy President Ramaphosa previously served as a chancellor of the University of Venda from 1997-2009.
“He also served as the University of Venda’s Special Ambassador, where he launched a successful R1 billion capital projects campaign that was utilised for infrastructural development at the university,” said the Presidency.
Deputy President Ramaphosa is a graduate of law from the University of South Africa following his expulsion from the University of the North (Turfloop) for political activism, which arose from the organisation of pro-Frelimo rallies in 1974, under the banner of the erstwhile South African Students Organisation (SASO). - SAnews.gov.za
