Transnet to repair damaged pipeline

Friday, June 4, 2010

Pretoria - Transnet has placed precautionary measures on all crossings within the servitude of its pipeline at Nasrec.

This comes after a private contractor damaged the pipeline at Nasrec road between Alrode and Langlaagte this week resulting in a diesel spillage causing the closure of the road.

"The work in the servitude was unauthorized and we believe that the contractor was conducting horizontal drilling when he damaged the pipeline.

"As a precautionary measure, Transnet Pipelines (TPL) has placed restrictions on all crossings and activities in the servitude from 1 June to 20 July 2010 and we request all construction companies to refrain from any activities in our registered servitudes during the soccer tournament," said the parastatal's spokesperson John Dludlu on Thursday.

Repairs to the pipeline have started.

"We assure the public we will conduct the repairs, recovery and rehabilitation as quickly as possible," he added.
