Pretoria-With the World Cup nearing, traffic officers who will be working beyond their normal hours have already been deployed to strategic points.

In a statement, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) together with provincial traffic authorities said their objective is to have an incident free World Cup.

"Traffic officers are already deployed to all strategic and to-be congested areas and will work beyond the normal working hours. There will be a very strong presence of traffic officials patrolling such areas and escorting dignitaries where necessary. One of the fundamental focal areas for traffic officials will be to regulate, monitor and alleviate traffic congestion on all roads," it said.

It also reminded motorists that they have a role to play by obeying the rules of the road.
Acting CEO of the RTMC, Collins Letsoalo said that there will be no room for fatal crashes while also calling on the public for cooperation.
