Durban - Orlando Pirates star Teko Modise has been suspended for failing to pitch up at a recent training camp ahead of the crucial Premiership clash against Santos last weekend.

Reports suggest that Modise left the camp to attend to a family crisis.

However, an investigation has been set up and Modise will have the opportunity to explain his actions, according to a statement released late on Tuesday by club chair Irvin Khoza.

"Teko Modise's absenteeism from camp ahead of a crucial game without leave or consent is of a serious nature. The management of Orlando Pirates Football Club is bound by duty to investigate with a particular view to establish the facts and thereafter determine an appropriate course of action," said Khoza.

The club confirmed that the Bafana Bafana player is on suspension with full pay and benefits until the investigation is concluded.

"Teko is a senior player, his conduct is not only under scrutiny, it is precedence setting as well," added Khoza.

Modise is contracted to the club until June 2012.
