Team to inspect storm damage in North West

Pretoria - The North West province has dispatched a team of disaster management officials to inspect the extent of damage caused by the heavy rainfalls.

The team will be working with officials from the South African Social Security Agency in order to determine the type of social relief needed for distressed families, the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements said on Tuesday.

Bojanala Platinum district has been the hardest hit by rainfalls that have been accompanied by thunderstorms since the start of the week.

At least 15 houses were damaged in Madibeng local municipality. In Rustenburg, eight houses have been damaged and five roofs were blown away in Moretele local municipality.

In Ventersdorp, the roof of a shack was blown away in Tshing township. In Tlokwe, a shack burnt down in Ikageng’s Extension 7 and one restaurant partly burnt near Potch Dam.

A house burnt in Moshwana village and one roof was blown away in Tlapeng village in Kagisano-Molopo local municipality. – SAnews.gov.za
