Pretoria - Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the possession of more than R200 000 worth of copper wire.

The suspects were arrested this morning by the Roossenekal police in Limpopo along the R555 road in Roossenekal.

The police made a breakthrough, while doing normal patrols when a Toyota bakkie suddenly sped into the bushes after noticing the police.

The three suspects tried to escape but were apprehended. The police also arrested a motorist who was driving a Toyota sedan car that was in front of the Toyota bakkie.

“The burnt copper wires are estimated at more than R200 000. Preliminary investigations indicate that the copper wire might have been stolen from Polokwane or surrounding areas,” said police spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

The four suspects, aged between 30 and 41 are reportedly from Apel (3) and one from Malipsdrift near Lebowakgomo. They are expected to appear before the Laersdrift Magistrates court tomorrow for further police investigations.

Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo, Lt General Thabethe Simon Mpembe has applauded the good work rendered by the members.

“Police will always be vigilant in ensuring that people dealing in copper wires are dealt with accordingly,” Mpembe reiterated. – SAnews.gov.za
