Pretoria - The State Security Ministry has denied reports of a plot to destabilise the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa).
“The Ministry refutes these allegations with the contempt they deserve and further expresses our concern at the politicisation of the work of State agents in matters that are the domain of union structures and leadership thereof,” spokesperson Brian Dube said.
Numsa alleges that there is a document is being circulated as part of a plan to destroy the union, which implicates Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim, former Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils and former President Thabo Mbeki's brother Moeletsi Mbeki and other international agents in a plot to destabilise the country.
According to the document, strategies include instigating widespread violence, land grabs and instability, as well as the establishment of intelligence structures in collaboration with foreign governments and international companies.
Dube said State Security Minister David Mahlobo has requested the Inspector General of Intelligence to investigate the claims.
“The Ministry appeals to them to cooperate with this process. The Minister is also seeking to meet with Numsa on these matters.” - SAnews.gov.za
