Cape Town – With just minutes to go before President Jacob Zuma delivers his State of the Nation Address, guests, Members of Parliament and Ministers, among others, strutted their stuff on the red carpet.

Designer clothes, shoes and accessories were trending on the red carpet on Thursday afternoon.

Among the first to arrive was Stats SA Statistician General Pali Lehohla, who donned a dark suit while holding a stylish brown bag.

Next to arrive was Mandla Mandela and his wife Rabia dressed in traditional attire.

Asked who designed their outfits, he said: “Beverly Cloete, a friend of the family. She decided to do the outfits for us that are inspired by tradition and culture and where we come from – Mvezo omkhulu”.

Several guests arrived in beautiful outfits throughout the duration of the red carpet, including Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba and his wife and State Security Minister David Mahlobo and his wife.

Crowd favourite Dali Tambo arrived with his wife and son.

He said: “I always dress myself. My wife [was dressed by] Merriam Vesser, my son Paul Smith”.

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula added some bounce on the red carpet.

“My suits are inspired by myself. I dress like this every time I come to Parliament.

“I wear darker colours instead of bright colours. You wear bright colours when you go to a wedding and this is the opening of Parliament,” he quipped.

Several MPs arrived on the red carpet, including ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu, who was accompanied by his daughter, and NCOP Chairperson Thandi Modise. – SAnews.gov.za
