President Zuma has authorised the deployment of 441 members of SANDF to Parliament

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has authorised the deployment of 441 members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to Parliament.

They will assist the South African Police Service (SAPS) in maintaining law and order during the opening of Parliament, which will see the President delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday evening.

“Four hundred and forty-one members of the SANDF will be employed, together with SAPS, for the period of 5 February to 10 February 2017,” the Presidency said on Tuesday.

Parliament is putting the final touches to preparations for the day, which is traditionally rich with symbolism and State ceremonial activities.

The day will bring together the three arms of the State -- the executive, the judiciary and the legislature -- who will play out their constitutional roles in full view of the nation. - SAnews.gov.za
