Pretoria - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official funeral for former Constitutional Court Judge Thembile Skweyiya.
This funeral category is designated by the President for distinguished persons.
Deputy President Ramaphosa is currently acting President while President Jacob Zuma is attending China's Victory Day commemoration event.
“The Acting President has ordered that all National Flags at all flag stations in the country be flown at half-mast from today, 03 September 2015 until the day of the funeral,” the Presidency said on Thursday.
Government is, however, still in discussion with the family regarding the date of the funeral.
Judge Skweyiya, who was one of the first black advocates in the country, passed away on Tuesday.
He was a leader in the development of the country's jurisprudence and a renowned human rights lawyer and activist during the height of apartheid repression in the 1980s.
President Jacob Zuma had appointed Judge Skweyiya as the Inspecting Judge of Prisons in April this year. - SAnews.gov.za
