Pretoria - Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom will this weekend launch Tourism Month, in Limpopo.

The theme for this year’s Tourism Month, which is commemorated in the month of September, is “a million new opportunities await”.

World Tourism Day will be held on 27 September.

According to a statement issued following Cabinet’s ordinary meeting on Wednesday, the theme aims to make tourists aware of the importance of responsible tourism.

“As part of this, tourists are encouraged to respect cultures, protect heritage, save energy and water, and most importantly, buy regional products to support local jobs,” said the statement.

Cabinet encouraged South Africans to explore the fascinating and beautiful country, and by doing so help maintain jobs and support local products.

Tourism Month will be launched on 16 August at Euphoria Golf Estate, Mookgophong in Limpopo. – SAnews.gov.za
