Pretoria - The Head of the Gauteng Department of Education has instituted an independent investigation into the incident,where a learner at DF Malan High School in Meyerton was stabbed on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, an argument between the learners escalated up to the point where a learner was stabbed with an object. The victim is in a stable condition in hospital.
The department expressed shocked at the incident.
“The school provided counselling to learners on Tuesday and the department has sent additional counsellors to the school today [Wednesday],” said department spokesperson Charles Phahlane.
Phahlane added that the school has suspended the perpetrator and the school governing body will convene a disciplinary hearing for the learner. – SAnews.gov.za
