Pretoria - Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will on Monday officially open Thulasizwe school for autistic learners.
The school opened on the same day as mainstream schools in Gauteng.
Thulasizwe brings specialised support to learners with autism within reach of their parents, who are financially and otherwise overstressed.
Situated in Orlando West in Soweto, it is hoped that the school will relieve learners with autism in the area from the stress of having to travel long distances to school.
“This school will allow 80 learners the opportunity to get to school within 30 minutes. The school has been specially customised to cater for learners with autism.
“This includes the colour of classroom paint, colour of chairs, play areas, therapy centre, curriculum and teacher capacity building,” said the provincial Department of Education. - SAnews.gov.za
