SAPS officers to man 10111 call centres

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has put in place contingency plans for staff to man 10111 call centres as workers down tools.

The plans will see uniformed police officers deployed at the call centres to fill the positions vacated by striking employees.

“Contingency plans have already been implemented and functional police members will perform duties at the 10111 centres countrywide.

“This is an essential service and there is a constitutional imperative to ensure that essential services are provided to our communities,” the SAPS said on Wednesday

The SAPS said the strike has been classified as a protected strike and the "no work no pay" rule applies.

The operators, represented by the South African Policing Union (SAPU), have downed tools, demanding higher salaries from level 5 to level 7. They say wage talks have deadlocked. - SAnews.gov.za
