Pretoria - Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has commended the brave women of the city's Safety and Security Directorate.

"As safety personnel, some of you often risk your very lives for us. You help the city deal with risk, you keep us safe, you manage disaster situations and you save lives. You do these incredible things because it is your job to do so," said De Lille, speaking at Women's Day celebrations for the Safety Directorate.

She applauded the directorate for taking the lead in terms of leadership and management roles occupied by women.

"Compared nationally and internationally, the various components of the safety directorate have significant numbers of women in management roles," she said, thanking the women for the commitment they demonstrated to keeping communities safe.

De Lille encouraged each member of the directorate to bring their best to the team in order to let the unit operate like a well-oiled machine. Despite the challenges of crime, social problems and disasters, the mayor acknowledged the efforts of those who worked tirelessly to help overcome them.

"Your achievements provide evidence of a Safety Directorate that runs on the two principles of service and excellence. You are all examples to the women of our city, examples to our community and examples to your colleagues in the directorate," said De Lille.
