President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attack that killed 15 people and left several others injured in Kenya.
“South Africa condemns in the strongest possible terms the attacks on the government and the people of Kenya. South Africa extends its condolences to the bereaved and wishes those injured a speedy recovery,” President Ramaphosa said on Wednesday.
At least 15 people were killed and several others injured after attackers struck an upmarket hotel and office complex in Kenya's capital Nairobi on Tuesday.
Initial reports are that no South African citizen has been reported injured in the attack.
However, President Ramaphosa said the South African High Commission in Nairobi is monitoring the situation and interacting with authorities.
“On behalf of the government and the people of South Africa, we send a message of support to the government and the people of Kenya.”
Meanwhile, the Somalia-based terrorist group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group has been targeting Kenya-Somalia border areas and killing innocent citizens since Kenyan soldiers entered Somalia in 2011 to secure the two countries' shared border. – SAnews-Xinhua
