Pretoria - South Africa has condemned the grenade attacks at a nightclub and bus terminal in Kenya.
"The South African Government condemns in the strongest possible terms these acts of terrorism aimed at maiming and hurting innocent people. Whatever reasons prompted the perpetration of these deeds, does not justify the killing of innocent people," said President Jacob Zuma.
Hand grenades were thrown at crowds of Kenyans who were at a nightclub and a bus terminal in the early hours and afternoon of Monday, respectively.
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation said government called upon any persons or organisations responsible for the atrocious deeds, to refrain from using indiscriminate violence to achieve their aims, but to pursue their objectives in a dignified and peaceful manner.
The department is in contact with the High Commission in Nairobi and is monitoring the situation and will communicate further developments in this regard.
The President further extended condolences to Kenya on behalf of government and the people of South Africa. "The South African Government is deeply saddened by the loss of life and critical injuries resulting from these attacks," he said.
