Pretoria - The South African Government on Tuesday condemned the attacks in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) by armed forces.

Reports said armed youths believed to be loyal to a pastor who challenged President Joseph Kabila in elections seven years ago stormed the state television station, the international airport and the military headquarters. About 70 assailants and three troops dead, were reportedly killed.

“These attacks were carried out at a time when sustained efforts are being made to further dialogue among all concerned stakeholders in the DRC," the Department of International Relations and Cooperation said in a statement.

“The South African Government totally rejects the use of force which undermines such efforts and threaten to destabilise the country,” it said. South Africa would continue to support the role of Southern African Development Community, the African Union and the United Nations in supporting the government and the people of the DRC in their efforts to consolidate peace, security and stability throughout the country,” the statement said. – SAnews.gov.za
