Rhino poaching still on the rise

Pretoria - South Africa has lost a total of 199 rhinos due to illegal rhino poaching since the beginning of the year.

According to the latest statistics from the Department of Environmental Affairs, the Kruger National Park is still the most targeted by poachers with the park having lost a total of 119 rhinos from the beginning of this year.

Targeted provinces include Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and KwaZulu-Natal which collectively account for 73 killed rhinos.

Presently, a total of 122 arrests have been made of which 108 were poachers, 10 receivers/couriers and four couriers/buyers.

South Africans are urged to report incidents of rhino poaching or any tip-offs that could lead to the arrest and prevention of illegal killing to 0800 205 005.
