Pretoria – About 92% of the 63 001 results slips have already been captured in the IEC in the 2016 Local Government Elections.
The Electoral Commission (IEC) on Thursday evening briefed media on the latest in the results capturing and auditing process in the country’s fifth municipal elections.
The commission’s Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, said, however, that only 83.3% of the results had undergone auditing at the time of the briefing at 5pm.
“We still have about 10 496 results slips, amounting to 16.7%, to capture before we finalise the results capturing process… Our projections are that by early evening tomorrow, all results will be in the system,” he said.
Mamabolo said the IEC expects to capture and audit 90% of the results slips by the end of today.
Mamabolo said as far as results capturing goes in metros, they are working to finalise results in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
“Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is currently at 91% complete. We are working very hard in that part of the world to declare that municipality sometime this evening [Thursday]. There are just 44 results slips that still need to be captured, scanned and audited in that municipality,” he said.
He said eThekwini Metro has moved from the glitches it experienced earlier and has so far captured 55% of the results slips. - SAnews.gov.za
