Reserve Bank appoints Marcus' advisors

Pretoria - The South African Reserve Bank has announced that Dr Monde Mnyande and Brian Kahn have been appointed as advisors to the Governor, Gill Marcus.

The appointments will come into effect from 1 December 2009.

"Dr Mnyande will be responsible for establishing an outreach programme for the bank to interact with stakeholders across the broad spectrum of South African society. He is also appointed Head of the Research Department and remains Chief Economist," said the bank in a statement.

He was chief economist and executive general manager at the Reserve Bank. He joined the Reserve Bank in 1995 as deputy head of the business cycles division. In 1999 he became chief economist. He is also a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

Mr Kahn, who joined the bank as deputy head of research and head of monetary policy research unit, has been a member of the MPC since 1999. He will be advisor responsible for economic developments
