Registration for supplementary exams extended

Thursday, January 22, 2009

Pretoria - The Department of Education has extended the registration date for supplementary examinations for 2008 matric learners who failed two or more subjects or like to improve their marks.

The learners had until Wednesday to register for supplementary exams but due to a high response from learners, the department decided to extend the deadline for two more days to allow all learners to register.

"There was an influx of learners coming to register and there was not enough time to complete them on Wednesday, we then decided to extend the registration date to Friday," Branch Co-ordinator of the department's Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges, Zarene Govender told BuaNews on Thursday.

The department said candidates must register at the school or province in which they wrote the 2008 National Senior Certificate examination.

Candidates will be required to produce a valid form of identification when registering for and when writing the supplementary examinations.

Supplementary examinations will be conducted at cluster centers that are linked to the candidate's original centre from 17 February to 23 March.

The pupils are required to obtain admission letters for the supplementary examination from the district office where entries were submitted. These letters will be available from the district office on 6 February.

The admission letter, together with the candidate's identity document, will be required before he or she is permitted into the examination room, the department said.

Learners can SMS their student number to 35909 to verify if they qualify for the supplementary examination and the timetable for the supplementary examinations can be obtained from the department's website www.education.gov.za.

The department has advised all candidates who wish to repeat their entire Grade 12 National Senior Certificate that they will be able to write in October and November 2009.
