R706m for sanitation backlog in Bojanala

Pretoria - Over R706 million has been allocated to address the sanitation backlog within the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, Executive Mayor Louis Diremelo says.

Speaking at the North West Provincial Basic Services Acceleration Summit in Rustenburg on Friday, Diremelo said 5 485 households in Moretele Local Municipality were beneficiaries of the R255 million sanitation projects that are under construction in 11 wards.

A total of 6 000 ventilated improved pit latrine (VIP) and 4000 waterborne toilets project is to be rolled out in Klipgat in Madibeng Local Municipality. The intervention includes the rehabilitation of four waste treatment works funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant.

R244 million rand has been allocated for the project.

Other projects to address the sanitation backlog are underway in Moses Kotane, Kgetleng Rivier and Rustenburg Local Municipalities. – SAnews.gov.za
