Public viewing underway at Union Buildings

Thursday, December 12, 2013

Pretoria -  Members of the public have started filing past the body of former President Nelson Mandela, whose remains are lying in state at the Union Buildings in the country’s capital.

Today is the second day that the public has an opportunity to view the body of the father of the nation at the Union Buildings’ Amphitheatre, which has been renamed after South Africa’s first democratically elected President.

Public viewing started shortly after 8am. Mandela’s eldest grandson Chief Mandla Mandela is keeping vigil a few feet away from the former statesman’s body.

Choppers flew overhead as the day got off to an earnest start. – SAnews.gov.za
