Mthatha – Government has advised mourners that there will be live television feeds to public tribute and mourning areas around Qunu where former President Nelson Mandela will be buried on Sunday.

The public viewing areas have been arranged to give thousands of people a chance to share in the historic event.

The public viewing areas will be held at Rotary Stadium, the open space below Qunu Museum, Mthatha Stadium, Khaya Majola Stadium, Empa Village next to Qunu, Nkalane village next to Qunu, Mvezo Traditional Council, Mqekezweni Traditional Council, Port St Johns Sports Ground, Lusikisiki College Grounds, Tsolo Junction, Nelson Mandela Stadium, Sisa Dukashe Stadium, Cofimvaba Stadium, Queenstown Sports complex, Kwezi Naledi Hall, Miki Yili Stadium in Grahamstown, Humansdorp, Somerset East Town Hall,  Matatiele Stadium, Mt Ayliff Town Hall, Nqadu Great Place, Idutywa Sports Ground

“Television will also make it possible for people in other parts of the country and the world to follow Tata Madiba’s final journey to his resting place on the family farm in Qunu,” said government in a statement on Saturday.

This comes as access to the Mandela family homestead at Qunu is restricted to guests who have been accredited to attend proceedings. A marquee has been set up on the Mandela family property to accommodate about 4 500 accredited guests at the State Funeral Service tomorrow morning.

Government said it was customary that no invitations are issued to guests, but rather people incidcate their intentions to attend the State Funeral.

“Only 450-500 of these guests, including members of the Mandela family, have been accredited to move to the actual burial site, which is away from the marquee that has featured in many television broadcasts over the past few days,” added government. – SAnews.gov.za
