Pretoria – The public has been advised to use the park-and-ride system to get to the Union Buildings where the body of the late former President Nelson Mandela is lying in state.
The City of Tshwane has activated park-and-ride facilities at the Tshwane Events Centre, LC De Villiers Sports Facility and Fountains Valley Park to the Union Buildings.
Mourners are advised that cameras, including cellphones, will not be allowed at the Union Buildings.
Mandela’s body arrived at the Union Buildings a short while ago from 1 Military Hospital in a glass-sided black hearse. His coffin draped in the South African flag.
The Mandela family and Heads of State and other dignitaries will get the opportunity to view the body of Madiba until noon, then it will be opened to the public until 5pm.
On Thursday and Friday, the body will be moved once again from 1 Military Hospital to the Union Buildings at 7am and the public will be able to view the remains from 8am to 5pm.
The bus services that will transport the public to the Union Buildings are adapted for people with disabilities. Government officials are at hand at the Union Buildings to assist people with disabilities through the process of paying their last respects. – SAnews.gov.za
