Pretoria - The newly built state-of-the-art Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo will be officially unveiled on Saturday with a spectacular soccer tournament.

Three local Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams, Kaizer Chiefs, Supersport United, Bidvest Wits and Bronby from Copenhagen will lock horns to emerge as the new champions of the Peter Mokaba Cup soccer tournament.

Peter Mokaba Stadium is one of the host stadia of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Greece, Argentina, Paraguay, New Zealand, France and Mexico will all play their first round match at the new stadium.

Last week City of Polokwane executive mayor, Thabo Makunyane, also unveiled the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex to mark the completion of the stadium.

On Reconciliation Day last year, members of the public were given an opportunity to tour the facility in groups.

Another major sporting activity at the new stadium will be staged on 30 January, when two rugby teams, Vodacom Blue Bulls and the Lions battle it out in a Super 14 game.

The construction of the stadium, which started in March 2007, took 32 months to complete.

The formal contractual handover was done in November last year and the final handover is expected to be on 11 February when the contractor will be totally moving out of the site.

The new stadium has been built adjacent to the old stadium to form the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex. From its surroundings, the R1, 3 billion development has created a landmark for the city and the entire province.
