Provinces finalise election counting

Pretoria - Most of the provincial offices of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) have completed counting their ballots and are currently capturing results.

IEC spokesperson in the Eastern Cape Julie Stanworth said: "We are done with the counting of ballots. We have already captured 98.9 percent of the results. Our officers are working very hard, we are just finalising the capturing of the remaining results."

In Gauteng, IEC spokesperson Moses Pitso said they had already finished counting and capturing the results in the West Rand which includes Mogale City, Merafong, Randfontein and Westonaria.

"I am hopeful that by the end of today the capturing of the results would be completed," he said.

Thabiso Mokoena said counting of ballots in the Free State was completed last night. "We've already captured 74 percent of the results and we are working with speed because we want to finish today," he said.

In Limpopo, IEC provincial spokesperson, Motsiri Ramafalo said they had already finished counting the ballots. "We are now capturing the results and we are standing at 51 percent," he said.

IEC spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Sibusiso Nkosi said although they had already started capturing the results, they were still counting the ballots. "We are still counting the ballots and we've already captured 53.95 percent of the results," he said.

The IEC officials in the Western Cape have already completed capturing results from 18 of the 25 municipalities.
