Pretoria - The Pretoria Magistrate's Court was closed on Tuesday when a second fire broke out in a courtroom, according to the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
This after a fire broke out in the building's basement on Monday.
"The fire was on the fourth floor in courtroom 1. It started somewhere underneath the magistrate's chair and his bench and table were completely burnt out," said municipal spokesman Console Tleane.
According to media reports the building was evacuated and nobody was reported injured.
During the investigation, the possibility of arson would not be ruled out, according to Tleane.
Emily Dlamini, the Gauteng Regional Head at the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, told BuaNews that investigations into the cause of Monday's fire were still continuing.
A total of 12 prisoners were trapped in the building for a short while after the fire broke out. However, all were rescued by emergency personal unharmed.
