Presidential Hotline improving responsiveness

Friday, April 19, 2013

Pretoria – Cabinet this week received a report on the performance of the President Hotline which was launched in October 2009 to make government more accessible.

The Presidential Hotline, which can be reached on 1 7737, was set up by President Jacob Zuma to give South Africans easier access to the Presidency, and to promote a government that responds to and interacts with its people.

In a statement issued by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) following Cabinet’s ordinary meeting this week, Cabinet said significant improvement in responsiveness was noted since the last report during February 2012.

“For the 154 549 cases logged as of 31 January 2013, the overall case resolution rate increased from 79.89% to 88.78% between January 2012 and January 2013. This is encouraging given that the Presidential Hotline started with a case resolution rate of 39% in November 2009,” said the statement.

It said the hotline continued to serve as a mechanism for citizens to interact with government.

“It also provides a tool to monitor the responsiveness of government to the concerns of citizens. The information collected is used by Departments to better inform service delivery improvements and to monitor the number of cases resolved and the quality of case resolution.” - SAnews.gov.za
