President Zuma appoints Judges to different Courts

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has in terms of section 174 (6) of the country’s Constitution, and on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission, appointed several Judges to serve in the various Superior Courts.

"We wish the appointed Judges all the best in their new critical tasks as members of our esteemed judicial system,” President Zuma said in a statement on Friday. 

The following judges have been appointed:

  •  The Honourable Mr Justice Boissie Henry Mbha as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal, with effect from 01 June 2014 in an existing vacancy.
  •  The Honourable Mr Justice Kevin Gerard Beecroft Swain as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal, with effect from 01 June 2014 in an existing vacancy
  • The Honourable Mr Justice Dumisani Hamilton Zondi as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal, with effect from 01 June 2014 in an existing vacancy
  • The Honourable Mr Mahendra Ramasamy Chetty as a Judge of the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, Pietermaritzburg, with effect from 01 June 2014 in an existing vacancy. 
  • The Honourable Nkosinathi Emmanuel Chili as a Judge of the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, Pietermaritzburg, with effect from 01 June 2014 in an existing vacancy.
  •  The Honourable Adv. Peter John Olsen, SC as a as a Judge of the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, Durban, with effect from 01 June 2014 in an existing vacancy. 
  • The Honourable Ms Thoba Portia Poyo Dlwati as a Judge of the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, Pietermaritzburg, with effect from 01 June 2014 in an existing vacancy.

President Zuma has also in terms of section 169 (1) read with section 170 (1) of the Labour Relations Act, on the advice of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC) and the Judicial Service Commission, appointed Judges of the High Court as Judges of the Labour Appeal Court for a period of ten years with effect from 01 June 2014. 

They are:

  • The Honourable Mr Justice Philip Coppin of the Gauteng Local Division of the High Court, Johannesburg;
  •  The Honourable Mr Justice Adolph Adriaan Landman of the North West Division of the High Court, Mahikeng; 
  • The Honourable Madam Justice Mahube Betty Molemela of the Free State Division of the High  Court;
  • The Honourable Mr Justice Cagney John Musi of the Free State Division of the High Court, Bloemfontein and 
  • The Honourable Mr Justice Roland Terence Sutherland of the Gauteng Local Division of the High Court, Johannesburg. –SAnews.gov.za
