Sunday, December 14, 2014

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will on Tuesday deliver an address at the Day of Reconciliation celebrations in Ncome in KwaZulu-Natal as part of promoting reconciliation and nation building in the country.

The President will officially open the bridge that joins Ncome Museum and the Blood River Monument. The Battle of Blood River has been commemorated separately on each side of the river each year.

On 16 December 1838, the Battle of Blood River took place near Ncome River in KwaZulu-Natal. The Battle of Blood River was between the Voortrekkers under the leadership of Andries Pretorius and amaZulu under the leadership of King Dingane. Ncome River became red with the blood of the slain, hence the river became known as Blood River.

This year’s National Day of Reconciliation is held under the theme Social Cohesion, Reconciliation and National Unity in the 20 Years of Democracy. President Zuma will also officially open phase two of the Ncome Museum. – SAnews.gov.za
