President wishes SA well over Easter

Pretoria - As millions of South Africans prepare to travel to various destinations for the Easter weekend, President Jacob Zuma has wished them a safe and refreshing break.

"We know that this is a sacred time of family reunions, religious festivities and consecrations, especially for those who worship in the Christian faith as well as the Jewish community that marks the Passover," Zuma said in a statement on Thursday.

He wished those who will be visiting loved ones "a true moment of peace, reflection and of touching the lives of those around us".

"We must make the 2012 Easter weekend a turnaround weekend - one in which we actually reduce carnage on the roads. It all depends on each and every road user," Zuma said.

He appealed to all road users to be pleasant, patient, considerate and extra vigilant in their journeys, adding that they should not drink and drive. Drivers should obey all the rules of the road at all times.
