Pretoria - Gauteng Premier David Makhura has joined South Africans in mourning the death of TV personality, Simba Mhere.
Premier Makhura on Monday extended condolences to Mhere’s family. He said it was tragic to lose such a young person, who was in the prime of his career.
“Our condolences are also extended to all families that lost their loved ones as a result of accidents on our roads in the province in the past weekend. On behalf of the provincial government, I wish to urge all motorists to be cautious on the road and drive safely to ensure that we reduce the loss of lives due to accidents on our roads,” said Premier Makhura.
Mhere died after he was involved in a car accident on William Nicol Drive near the N1 in Johannesburg on Saturday. He was 26 years.
A friend who was also travelling in his car was also killed but Mhere’s father survived the crash and was taken to hospital.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Mhere moved to Johannesburg when he was one year old. He attended Randpark High School and then went on to study BComm Accounting at the University of Johannesburg.
At the time of his death, he was the youngest presenter of the magazine programme, Top Billing on SABC 3 after he won the Top Billing Presenter search in 2010.
