Prasa suspends employee accused of soliciting bribe

Monday, November 11, 2013

Pretoria - The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) has launched an internal investigation against an employee, who is accused of attempting to solicit a bribe from a service provider.

Prasa’s head of communication, Moffet Mofokeng, said the employee, who has appeared before the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria last Friday, was suspended immediately after his arrest last Thursday.

Mofokeng said in a statement: “We welcome the employee’s arrest and we wish to state unambiguously that Prasa is committed to clean governance and any employee who acts outside the permissible rules will be dealt with.”

He said the company has taken a firm stance regarding fraud and corruption, and any Prasa employee who is accused of corruption will have to face the might of the law.

The employee will once again appear before the same court on 17 January next year. - SAnews.gov.za
