Polokwane - People living around Polokwane will be able to claim money due to them from the Road Accident Fund (RAF).

Since its launch in March 2012, the RAF's outreach programme has visited 23 communities across South Africa and made settlement offers of about R151 million. Now they will visit areas around Polokwane.

“The main aim of the campaign is to bridge the gap between the RAF and our customers in order to improve service delivery and meet the RAF’s overall strategic objectives,” said RAF spokesman Sello Mosotho.

He said the RAF will visit Limpopo's capital city and surrounding communities this weekend to meet locals who are already on their files, as well as families who have been affected by road accidents.

Mosotho said the campaign, whose slogan is Our Year to Shine, includes representatives of the legal and medical fraternity.

Members of the public will be informed about the RAF’s day-to-day operations and learn about the Road Accident Benefit Scheme Bill.

Scholar patrol uniforms and school shoes will also be handed over to underprivileged pupils as part of the RAF's Corporate Social Investment programme.

“This activity is aimed at promoting compliance with traffic rules amongst all road users in light of the escalating rate of accidents and fatalities,” said Mosotho.

Mosotho said the campaign’s objectives include inviting eligible community members to claim directly with the RAF, making settlement offers, assisting with claims enquiries and providing support to rehabilitating accident victims. – SAnews.gov.za
