Police promise safe voter registration weekend

Pretoria- The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) says it has put a plan in place to ensure voter registration runs smoothly this weekend.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa has declared Saturday and Sunday, between 8am and 5pm as voter registration periods country-wide ahead of the 2016 Local Government Elections.

“The NATJOINTS is confident that all the necessary security measures are in place for this weekend’s voter registration process to run smoothly and efficiently,” Spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said.

Naidoo said security officials will be deployed for this purpose have all been briefed about their roles and responsibilities.

“The registration process will be monitored very closely from both the Provincial JOINTS as well as the National JOINTS levels and, where required, the necessary support will be provided.”

The NATJOINTS said it has been working closely with the Electoral Commission during the preparatory period to ensure that all requirements are in place to meet the security needs of the people wanting to register to vote.-SAnews.gov.za
