Police monitoring #AlexTotalShutdown

Wednesday, April 3, 2019

Law enforcement agencies are on high alert and monitoring the so-called “total shutdown” protest in Alexandra, Johannesburg, over service delivery failures.

Residents have taken to the streets accusing the City of Johannesburg of failing to stop the mushrooming of illegal structures in the township.

They are also reportedly unhappy about the deteriorating state of the township.

Residents have barricaded most of the entrances to the township with burning tyres and rocks.

The City of Joburg has confirmed that two ringleaders have been arrested for public violence.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and the South African Police Services are on the ground monitoring the situation.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area. – SAnews.gov.za
