Gauteng police have begun the search for suspects after private security guards were shot and killed in Hillbrow on Monday.

Disturbing CCTV footage has been circulating on social media of armed men approach a Chubb Security company vehicle around 8.30pm, armed with firearms. The men are a few seconds later seen fleeing the scene after firing shots.

“It is alleged that the victims, aged 45 and 50, were sitting inside the Chubb Security vehicle at corner Caroline and Claim Streets in Hillbrow when they were accosted by about five suspects who shot at them.

“The two security guards were shot in the upper body and certified dead on the scene. A firearm was taken from one the victims,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo on Tuesday.

Masondo said the motive for the killing was yet to be determined.

“Police have opened two cases of murder for investigation. We are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help us arrest the suspects or help in the investigation to please call the nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” he said. – SAnews.gov.za
