Sunday, June 15, 2014

Pretoria – Parliament’s presiding officers say they are saddened by the passing away of the Secretary to Parliament, Michael Coetzee.

Parliament appointed Coetzee as Secretary to Parliament, the institution’s top official and its accounting officer, in November 2012.

He died on Friday, after a long battle with cancer.

“Mr Coetzee was diagnosed with cancer several years ago. But, true to his character, he fought the disease, refusing simply to surrender to its ravages, while continuing to serve Parliament with distinction and fulfilling the many other roles of his life,” said Parliament in a statement.

Parliament extended its profound condolences to Coetzee’s wife Bridgette, his son Matthew, his mother and other members of his family and friends and wished them strength during this time. – SAnews.gov.za
