Pretoria -The Minister of Home Affairs, Naledi Pandor, is serving as Acting President from today until President Jacob Zuma returns from his state visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo tomorrow.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe is in the People's Republic of China, leading the South African delegation to the South Africa-China Bi-National Commission meeting.

Zuma’s visit to the DRC is aimed at strengthening existing relations between the two countries.

Zuma and DRC President Joseph Kabila are expected to discuss political, economic and security cooperation, and pay particular focus on the search for peace and stability in the eastern part of the DRC and the Great Lakes region.

South Africa also contributes to a battalion serving as part of the MONUSCO Intervention Brigade, established under the UN Security Council Resolution 2098.
