PAM Bill withdrawn from National Assembly

Pretoria - Speaker of the National Assembly Max Sisulu has approved a request to withdraw the Public Administration Management (PAM) Bill from the National Assembly so that it can be tabled in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

The request came from the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Lindiwe Sisulu, said the Department of Public Service and Administration.

“The withdrawal will allow the NCOP an opportunity to consider the bill in detail and after approval, then return it to the National Assembly for further processing. The minister has called on members of the public to participate in the public hearings and ensure that their voice is heard,” said the department.

The bill covers the prohibiting of public servants from doing business with the state, disclosure of financial interest, establishment of the National School of Government, establishment of the Public Administration Ethics, Integrity and Disciplinary Technical Assistance Unit and the establishment of an Office of Standards and Compliance.

Sisulu said last week that the bill seeks to respond to service delivery challenges and to enable greater coordinated public administration in all spheres.

“We are convinced the Bill will pave the way for clean governance, professional, ethical public servants who are committed to meet and exceed the needs of our people while ensuring that government deals with disciplinary cases involving public servants who are on the government payroll,” she said at the time. – SAnews.gov.za
