Pretoria - Operations at the Master's Office in Pretoria have been temporarily affected due to a fire on Tuesday.

According to a statement by the Department of Justice and Constitutional, the fire broke out at the office's basement where written-off old furniture was being stored.

Staff managed to extinguish the blaze with the fire extinguishers that were available in the building and police and fire fighters were called to assist in expunging the flames.

While the cause of the fire is not yet known, police are investigating the matter. No injuries have been reported.

The Masters Offices is situated at the corner of Church and Queen Street and serves the public in respect of deceased estates, liquidations, registration of trusts, tutors and curators and administration of the Guardian's Fund.

The office aims to protect the financial interests of persons whose assets or interests are, for various reasons, being managed by others.
