North West Premier Professor Job Mokgoro has reaffirmed the province’s commitment to support the business sector.
“We appreciate the role that business play in economic development and growth,” said the Premier at a meet and greet business engagement session aimed at looking into the state of business in that province.
At the meeting held at the Mmabatho Convention Centre on Monday, Mokgoro said economic growth and development is dependent on an enabling environment.
He also stressed the importance of working together in order to create economic opportunities.
“As government, we need to enhance an enabling environment for business by levelling the playing field and continue to support businesses through transparent, equitable and fair procurement processes,” said Mokgoro.
Attended by different businesspeople across the province, Monday’s meeting provided an opportunity for businesspeople to engage the Premier on challenges they face.
The gathering formed part of Mokgoro’s plan of engaging all sectors in the province after taking over the reins in June.
Over 40 questions were posed to the Premier on issues related to procurement and tenders, among others.
Meanwhile, Mokgoro emphasised the need for the provincial government to communicate with business and the rest of society on an ongoing basis.
“Our businesspeople raised many questions around equity relating to supply chain management in government, where opportunities tend to be skewed and how we are not effectively communicating in responding to their issues.
"We must continue to give feedback on the work we are elected and employed to do in government.” - SAnews.gov.za
