Pretoria - The North West Department of Public Safety will on Wednesday host a provincial summit to assess progress of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign.

The campaign, in its 10th year, will officially be launched in Pretoria on Wednesday.

According to MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa, the objective of the summit is to assess progress of the campaign on gender violence issues over the past years with a view to developing a five-year Programme of Action that can be assessed annually.

The summit is expected to respond to among others; achievements of the campaign, challenges and threats encountered, identifying interventions and areas for improvement.

The one-day summit will take place at the Mmabatho Civic Centre, where Premier Maureen Modiselle will address delegates.

The summit targets participants from civil society, government, churches, faith based organisations, non-government organisations, women organisations, gender and children's rights activists and stakeholder organisations in general.
