Pretoria - The North West Public Safety Department has confirmed that a councilor from the Greater Taung Local Municipality had died yesterday in a car accident.

The accident took place at the Rooiwal-Taung Station crossroad near Taung Tusk Hotel after an Opel Astra seda, in which she was traveling in as a passenger, crashed into a hearse.

"After hitting the hearse on its right front fender and bumper, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which proceeded and hit a signpost pole which caused fatal injuries to the councilor," said the department's spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele.

It appears that the councilor was rushing to another accident scene in which one of her relatives was involved in.

The driver of the hearse was not injured.

MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa conveyed his condolences to the family of the councilor, the Greater Taung Local Municipality and the community that the councilor served.
