North West progress to be detailed at SOPA

North West Premier Professor Job Mokgoro is set to deliver the State of the Province Address (SOPA) at Mmabatho Stadium on Friday.

“The Premier will on Friday deliver the fifth administration’s last SOPA during the official opening of the North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL),” said the Office of the Premier and the North West Provincial Legislature in a joint statement on Tuesday.

Central to the Premier’s address will be the extent to which the provincial government is implementing radical economic transformation initiatives in a bid to achieve the fundamental objectives outlined in the country’s National Development Plan (NDP).

“The Premier is expected to highlight collaborative efforts to improve delivery of basic services to the community, as well as initiatives aimed at boosting the province’s investable social and economic infrastructure projects,” read the statement.

Mokgoro was sworn into office on 22 June 2018 and vowed to work towards eliminating the trust deficit between government and its people.

Previously the Premier has said relations within the province had been characterised by mistrust, scepticism, anger and disappointment on the part of communities.

Friday’s SOPA will be broadcast live on all North West based radio stations and television, and will be streamed live on various social media and digital platforms.

Proceedings at Mmabatho Stadium are expected to get underway at 9am. – SAnews.gov.za
