Thursday, October 1, 2015

Pretoria - North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has urged protesting residents to do so within the confines of the law.

“Violent protests have an effect of reversing the advances which the democratic government has made so far. We urge our communities to further utilize the Setsokotsane programme which is currently in Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality to raise their concerns so that they can be resolved,” said Premier Mahumapelo on Thursday.

This as service delivery protests are currently underway in the Tswaing and Mahikeng Local Municipalities.

The service delivery protests at Tswaing municipality has resulted in the burning of three schools, leaving many pupils stranded.

The Office of the Premier said residents have a right to engage in protests which are peaceful and non-violent and that violent protests encroach on the rights of other residents who do not associate themselves with them.

The provincial government commended the Mayor of the Mahikeng Local Municipality and the Executive District Mayor of Ngaka Modiri Molema for immediately availing themselves to engage the communities and urged all other public representatives to do the same.- SAnews.gov.za
