North West to host provincial prayer service

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Pretoria – The North West Provincial Government is to hold a provincial memorial service at James Motlatsi Stadium at 2pm on Sunday, Premier Thandi Modise has announced.

This is in response to President Jacob Zuma’s call for South Africans to mark Sunday as a national day of prayer and reflection.

The province had organised a provincial commemoration for tomorrow but it will now continue as a provincial prayer service. The provincial commemoration will be held at Matlosana Municipal Auditorium on Thursday.

Modise urged communities to observe the national day of prayer and reflect on the life of Madiba at their various places of worship, in their homes, workplaces and wherever they will be.

“The prayers that our people offered when our former President was in hospital not only strengthened his fighting spirit but also served to unite us. We need that unity as we mourn and celebrate the life of the world’s greatest freedom fighter, unifier and father of our nation with dignity, respect and honour,” said Modise.

She added that a fitting tribute to Madiba would be to advance the unity and reconciliation that his life epitomized. – SAnews.gov.za
